जग में अंधियारा छाया था,
मैं ज्वाला लेकर आया था,
मैं जलकर दी आयु बिता, पर जगती का तम हर न सका!

अपनी ही आग बुझा लेता,
तो जी को धैर्य बंधा देता,
मधु का सागर लहराता था, लघु प्याला भी मेँ भर न सका!

English Translation
I couldn't do anything in my life.
World was engulfed in darkness,
I brought light
I burnt my whole life, but I couldn't remove the darkness.
